JCUMC (Johns Creek United Methodist Church) has one of the most active Boy Scout programs run out of one organization in the state of Georgia.  We sponsor 8 BSA units (4 packs, 3 troops and 1 crew) with 6 of them meeting at the church. All in all, we have over 460 youth in our Boy Scout program.  Although we don't sponsor any Girl Scout troops, there are several that meet at the church as all scout organizations are welcome at JCUMC.

Each Boy Scout unit is run by volunteer leaders approved by the church. Each unit may be run a little differently depending on the membership and leadership in the unit. But they all implement the BSA program as approved by the Atlanta Area Council of the BSA and run their programs consistent with values espoused by the United Methodist Church.

Scouting as a Ministry

The scout program is one of the major youth ministries the church supports and is part of the "Serve" ministry. The largest is the youth sports program with about 3,000 youth participants in sports leagues offered year-round including soccer, baseball, flag football and basketball. But whether it is scouting, sports or any of its other youth ministries, JCUMC dedicates significant resources towards the youth in the community.

Activities & Advancement

Boys and girls get to experience all kinds of new and safe activities that  expand their horizon. Many of these activities introduce them to potential future vocations, new interests and new hobbies. They are also introduced to the idea of goal setting and encouraged to advance in rank. JCUMC's three BSA troops (middle and high school age boys) have had 75 scouts earn the Eagle Rank since 2003. And in Cub Scouts (elementary age boys), we've had over 570 Webelos earn the Arrow of Light award through one of our four packs since the first pack (Pack 143) was started in 1991.
