John Dorman Memorial Duty-To-God Breakfast

The United Methodist Men at JCUMC, in conjunction with the Boy Scout program at JCUMC, have an annual breakfast in order to pay respects to a fallen Eagle Scout who exemplified Duty-to-God in his daily life, and to promote Reverance to God in the Scout program in the Johns Creek area. John Dorman passed away from cancer in 2006 and his JCUMC bible study mens group, along with his wife and son, wanted to commemorate his memory by recognizing outstanding Eagle Scouts in the Johns Creek area who go above and beyond in practicing Duty-to-God in their lives.

This annual breakfast held in the Spring each year is open to everyone and designates net proceeds to the Johns Creek Scout Lodge to be built on campus. All qualified nominees are recognized at the breakfast with a specially engraved leadership bible and the John Dorman Duty-to-God Award is presented to one particularly outstanding Eagle Scout.

John’s legacy is faithfully continued by presenting this annual award to recognize and promote faith and leadership in young people today. The John Dorman Duty-to-God award annually recognizes one Eagle Scout in particular, from among all nominees, that best exemplifies the character traits John felt made the biggest impact on his life; namely Duty-to-God, leadership and service-to-others. The John Dorman DTG recipient is also presented with a specially engraved knife, which was one of John's other passions.

Requirements for the John Dorman DTG award are:

(1) the Scout will have earned the Eagle Scout rank prior to nomination,
(2) is a practising Christian (since John was a Christian and it's bible study group and the UMM who organize the event),
(3) has been nominated by an adult leader in his troop and
